International roaming

When you are on a TELUS monthly rate plan, you can use your phone and most of your subscribed services in hundreds of cities in the United States. You can also use your phone in many countries internationally.

To determine whether your TELUS phone or TELUS World phone works in a specific country, consult our International coverage maps.

Rates

International roaming costs vary by country. For detailed information, determine the zone of your destination country and then look up the rate for that zone.

Please note: it can take up to 90 days for international roaming calls to appear on your invoice.

Roaming minutes, including accessing your voicemail, are independent of your rate plan and are not applied towards your "included" or weekend minutes. Free local calling on your birthday is only available in Canada.

Get started

To use your device outside of Canada, you will need:

A TELUS handset or TELUS World phone

You can use your TELUS phone in many countries worldwide, including the U.S. However, in some countries, you need a TELUS World phones to obtain service. This group of phones includes: BlackBerry® 8830, BlackBerry® Storm, and Motorola A840. If you are using a TELUS World phone, please ensure your International Roaming card is inserted into your phone before you leave and call Client Care (at *611 or 1-866-558-2273) and ensure that International Roaming is activated on your account.

The latest preferred roaming list (PRL) software

As we expand our networks and coverage areas, we produce updates for the software for your phone to reflect those changes. You should install these updates regularly to ensure the best possible coverage. See our detailed installation instructions.

A TELUS Pay Monthly rate plan

International roaming can only be done on a TELUS phone with a Pay Monthly plan, not on a prepaid plan. Review Pay Monthly plans.

Telus International Roaming Guide for Blackberry Devices

The TELUS International Roaming Guide is a free application for BlackBerry World Phones that provides always-available international roaming help at your fingertips. It offers a country search feature that will provide:

• Direct access to TELUS client support through the on-device roaming guide, as well as mobile and landline numbers for toll free access according to location.
• A list of country specific carriers and their services for all currently supported roaming countries. As new countries are added, automatic updates will keep the software current.
• Tips and tricks, including common trouble-shooting steps and instructions for inserting the SIM card.

How to download & utilize the BlackBerry® Internet Service application:

1. Click on the TELUS International Roaming Guide icon present in the Downloads folder of your device, to run the application.
2. Upon the initial launch of the application, allow access to connection and phonebook when prompted.
3. You can start using the application once the first page of the application (search country) is displayed on your screen.

How to download using the BlackBerry® Enterprise Server:

1. Select & Click the Downloads folder on the home screen.
2. Select and click on TELUS WEB (green globe).
3. Select & click the TELUS International Roaming Guide icon on the screen to download the application.
4. The International Roaming Guide is downloaded to the Downloads folder on the Home screen of the device.
5. From the Downloads folder, click on the icon to install.
6. Upon the initial launch of the application, allow access to connection and phonebook, when prompted.
7. The International Roaming Guide is ready to use once the first page of the application (search country) is displayed on your screen.
8. Once installed, the icon can be moved. Simply highlight the icon, press menu, select Move or Move to Folder to move it or place it in any other folder on the device.

Note: If you are not able to access the application, please check with your IT or Wireless Administrator to determine if an IT policy is in place that restricts external downloads on your device.

How to download for BlackBerry® 8830 smartphone:

1. Select the TELUS Portal by pocket express.
2. Select TELUS Applications.
3. Select the TELUS International Roaming Guide, then select download.
4. Upon the initial launch of the application, allow access to connection and phonebook, when prompted.
5. You can start using the application once the first page of the application (search country) is displayed on your screen.

Note: If you are not able to access the application, please check with your IT or Wireless Administrator to determine if an IT policy is in place that restricts external downloads on your device.

What you need to know

Here's what you need to know when you're using your phone internationally:

• Minutes used while roaming are not applied towards any included monthly and weekend or weeknight minutes offered within your TELUS rate plan.
• Free local calling on your birthday is only available within Canada.
